Skin Care Routines

As the active ingredients, in today’s more scientific skin care products, equate more to dosages than to ‘time of day’ applications, understanding and working with this principle
is helpful - in spite of the fact that we will still, most commonly, apply our products at night and in the morning.
Our nightly routines can begin any time past 6pm, which is freeing if you find the whole cleansing and application of products something you don’t want to do last thing at night. I often change out of my day wear and complete my nightly routine around 8pm.
When trying out new products, you are looking for clarity from the experience, so it helps if you only trial one new product at a time. That way you can more easily decide whether it is a product that brings some extra benefit to your skin or it is something that you never need to purchase again.
A thorough cleansing routine is still the best foundation to a healthy functioning skin, so if you are not sure about your cleansing routine, please look at the blog "A Good Clean."
Order of application
The products you use in your Home Care routines will range from lightweight serums to very thick emollients and oils. Unless they state differently, the order of application is from the thinnest serums to the thickest oils. The other way around would simply be a waste of your water-based products as the thicker creams would hamper their penetration into the epidermis.
Exfoliation should be done regularly with a passive exfoliator (my favourite is Environ's Revival Mask) and is used on a Cleansed Skin and then removed before applying the night-time products.
